New Delhi: Security forces intercepted and apprehended two high-profile suspects, including a key member of the pro-Khalistan outfit Waris Punjab De and an American national, while they were attempting to illegally cross into India from Nepal. The joint counter-infiltration operation was executed by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Uttar Pradesh Police at the international border in the Rupaidiha police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district.
The main suspect, identified as Vikramjit Singh, had been absconding for several months and remains a key accused in the 2023 attack on the Ajnala police station in Punjab. His associate, identified as US national Manveer Singh Dhillon—originally hailing from Punjab’s Moga district—is suspected of attempting to enter the country without a valid visa to bypass central law enforcement and intelligence surveillance. Security agencies also taken three local facilitators into custody for allegedly aiding the duo’s unauthorized crossing.
Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava confirmed the arrests, stating that both primary suspects were being sought by the Punjab Police in connection with separate ongoing investigations. Following their detention, security and intelligence officials initiated detailed interrogations at the border post, and formal charges under relevant legal provisions have been filed against all individuals involved.
