Bengaluru: A major political development unfolded in Karnataka on Friday after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot formally accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, bringing the state cabinet led by him to an immediate end.

The resignation was submitted a day earlier to the Governor’s Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan, as the Governor was not present at the time. Following the constitutional process, an official notification confirming the acceptance of the resignation was issued on Friday.

In the notification, the Governor stated that the Council of Ministers headed by Siddaramaiah stood dissolved with immediate effect under the powers granted by Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India.

The development marks a significant turning point in Karnataka politics and is expected to trigger discussions over the formation of the next government leadership in the state.

While no detailed public statement has yet been released by Siddaramaiah regarding the reasons behind the resignation, political circles in Bengaluru remained active throughout the day amid speculation over possible leadership changes and future administrative arrangements.

Siddaramaiah, a senior Congress leader and one of Karnataka’s most influential political figures, had been leading the state government during a politically sensitive period marked by economic, administrative, and electoral challenges.

The resignation has also intensified attention on the ruling party’s next course of action, with party leaders expected to hold consultations regarding the transition of power and the appointment of a new chief minister.

Officials confirmed that routine government functions would continue while constitutional procedures related to the transition are completed.

Political observers believe the coming days could prove crucial for Karnataka’s political landscape as parties begin internal discussions and strategic meetings following the sudden leadership change.
