Hyderabad: In a significant political development, former MLC and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha officially launched her new political outfit, named Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS), in Hyderabad today, April 25, 2026. The move comes nearly seven months after her high-profile suspension from the BRS, a party founded by her father and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). By naming her party TRS, Kavitha has notably reclaimed the original acronym of her father’s party before it was rebranded as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
The launch event was preceded by a symbolic visit to the Amaraveerula Stupam at Gun Park, where Kavitha paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the 1969 Telangana statehood agitation. Speaking to the media, Kavitha clarified that she did not leave the BRS voluntarily but was “expelled” in September 2025. She asserted that the BRS lost its connection with the people the moment it abandoned its regional identity and renamed itself, leaving the “aspirations and unfinished agenda” of Telangana neglected. “I have the blood and grit of Telangana in me,” she stated, emphasizing that the people of the state are now her primary family.
The rift between Kavitha and the BRS leadership turned irreparable last year following her public allegations against senior party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Rao. She had accused them of conspiring with current Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to dismantle the KCR family and the party’s influence. Following her suspension for alleged “anti-party activities,” she resigned as an MLC and focused on her NGO, Telangana Jagruthi. With the launch of the new TRS, Kavitha aims to position herself as the true custodian of Telangana’s regional interests, setting the stage for a fragmented political landscape in the state’s upcoming electoral cycles.
