Jaishankar Meets UN Chief Guterres in New York, Discusses Global Shifts and Regional Flashpoints

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held an important meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York, where the two discussed major global developments, the state of multilateral cooperation and ongoing tensions in several regions.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he appreciated Guterres’ insights on the evolving world order and its impact on multilateral institutions. He also thanked the UN Secretary-General for his steady support for India’s development and international role.

“Good to meet with UNSG @antonioguterres in New York today. Valued his assessment of the current global order and its implications for multilateralism. Also appreciated his perspectives on various regional hotspots. Thank him for clear and consistent support for India’s growth and development. Look forward to welcoming him in India,” Jaishankar wrote.

The meeting took place at the UN headquarters and was attended by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P. Harish, Deputy Permanent Representative Yojna Patel and senior members of the Permanent Mission of India.

Jaishankar’s New York visit comes after his participation in the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Canada, where he held a series of bilateral discussions, including with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
