New Delhi: Bengaluru-based space startup GalaxEye on Sunday successfully launched its ‘Mission Drishti’ satellite aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from California, marking a significant milestone in India’s private space sector.

The company said Mission Drishti is the world’s first OptoSAR satellite, combining electro-optical (EO) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technologies into a single platform. While EO sensors capture high-resolution images in daylight and clear weather, SAR enables imaging in all weather conditions and at any time using radar signals.

Founder and CEO Suyash Singh said the satellite has been successfully placed in orbit and the team is now focused on its commissioning phase. He added that the mission has already generated strong global interest due to its advanced data capabilities.

According to the company, the satellite is designed to overcome limitations of conventional Earth observation systems by delivering consistent and reliable data across varying environmental conditions.

Mission Drishti is expected to support a wide range of applications, including defence operations, agriculture monitoring, disaster management, maritime surveillance and infrastructure planning.

The development is also seen as complementing India’s broader space ecosystem, which includes multiple Earth observation satellites operated by ISRO.

GalaxEye plans to expand the project into a constellation of 10 satellites by 2030, aiming to build a strong and self-reliant Earth observation network.
