New Delhi: In an unprecedented step aimed at safeguarding the integrity of a national-level entrance examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will use the Indian Air Force to transport question papers for the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21.
The move comes after the original NEET-UG examination conducted on May 3 was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak. With more than 2.2 million candidates expected to appear for the re-test, authorities are implementing enhanced security measures to ensure a transparent and fair examination process.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh announced the decision during a virtual review meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. The meeting focused on preparedness and coordination among various agencies involved in conducting the examination.
According to an official release, the involvement of the Indian Air Force reflects the importance being placed on protecting the examination process from any possibility of compromise. It will be the first time that military aircraft are being used to transport question papers for a national entrance test.
Security arrangements are also being strengthened at examination centres across the country. Telangana Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat directed police and district administrations to work in close coordination to maintain strict vigilance before and during the examination.
Officials have also been instructed to monitor social media platforms closely and respond swiftly to rumours, misinformation or fake claims that could create confusion among candidates or disrupt the examination process.
The fresh examination was announced after the NTA cancelled the earlier test amid allegations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the matter.
The NEET examination has faced scrutiny over security concerns in recent years. Following a separate controversy in 2024, the Supreme Court had issued guidelines aimed at strengthening safeguards and reducing the risk of future paper leaks.
With the June 21 re-examination approaching, authorities say every effort is being made to restore confidence among students and ensure the exam is conducted in a secure and credible manner.
