New Delhi: India Post will resume international postal services of all categories to the United States starting October 15, the Department of Posts announced on Tuesday. The move follows adjustments to comply with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, which levy a flat 50% customs duty on postal shipments from India based on the declared consignment value.

Postal services to the US had been suspended since August 22, 2025, after Executive Order 14324 mandated new regulatory requirements for the collection and remittance of import duties. India Post clarified that, unlike courier or commercial consignments, postal shipments will not incur additional base or product-specific duties, keeping the service more affordable for exporters.

“The favourable duty structure substantially reduces costs, making the postal channel a competitive option for MSMEs, artisans, small traders, and e-commerce exporters,” the statement said. The Department of Posts further confirmed that no extra charges will be levied on customers for DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) or qualified party services.

India Post emphasized that postal tariffs will remain unchanged, ensuring continued affordability while complying with revised US import norms. The resumption aims to support small and medium exporters and boost India’s export sector through the postal channel.
