India, Bangladesh Reaffirm Ties as Envoy Meets PM Tarique Rahman in Dhaka

Dhaka: Pranay Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday, reaffirming the commitment to strengthen bilateral ties through people-centric cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing engagement between New Delhi and Dhaka, focusing on collaboration across key sectors aligned with the development priorities of both nations. The discussions covered areas such as public health, financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, rural development, trade and investment, ease of doing business, technology partnerships, and energy cooperation.

According to the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, the High Commissioner conveyed India’s intent to work with Bangladesh in a positive, constructive, and forward-looking manner, based on mutual interest and shared benefits.

Verma also highlighted the importance of leveraging geographical proximity to unlock new opportunities by strengthening connectivity, boosting economic linkages, and enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

In a parallel development, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, recently met General Upendra Dwivedi to discuss expanding bilateral defence cooperation, including joint training initiatives aimed at promoting regional peace and security.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh подчеркed the resilience and strategic depth of India-Bangladesh relations, describing the partnership as forward-looking and rooted in strong people-to-people connections.

The latest engagements underline continued efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and defence domains.
