RAIPUR — A senior Indian Air Force (IAF) officer was found dead at his official residence in Chhattisgarh’s capital on Wednesday morning, in what police are investigating as a suspected case of suicide. Wing Commander Vipul Yadav, 39, was reportedly posted in Raipur to oversee tasks related to critical anti-Naxal operations in the region.

The grim discovery was made by the officer’s domestic help at his residence in Vidhayak Colony, under the jurisdiction of the Telibandha police station. According to police officials, Yadav was found hanging from a ceiling fan. At the time of the incident, the officer’s young son and daughter were asleep in a separate room of the house, unaware of the tragedy.

Initial Findings and Personal Background

Preliminary investigations suggest that personal distress may have been the catalyst for the extreme step.

  • Family Details: Wing Commander Yadav’s wife, a former IAF officer herself, currently works in the IT sector in Bengaluru. The couple had married in 2014.

  • Marital Disputes: Local police officials indicated that the couple reportedly faced frequent domestic disputes and personal issues, which are being considered as a primary angle in the ongoing probe.

  • No Suicide Note: Authorities confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the premises, leaving investigators to rely on forensic evidence and digital records to ascertain the final trigger.

Service in Anti-Naxal Operations

The loss of Wing Commander Yadav is significant given his role in the security apparatus of the state. He was a key figure in coordinating IAF support for anti-Naxal missions, which often involve complex aerial logistics and casualty evacuations in the dense forests of Bastar. The IAF and local police are working in tandem to complete the necessary formalities.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted to confirm the cause of death. Meanwhile, Raipur police are in the process of recording statements from family members and colleagues to understand the officer’s mental state in the days leading up to the incident.
