New Delhi: In a major breakthrough against organised crime, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Haryana Police, has successfully secured the extradition of alleged gangster Vainket Garg from Georgia to India.

Garg, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday under the custody of a Haryana Police escort team after Georgian authorities approved his extradition following legal proceedings.

According to officials, Garg is wanted in multiple criminal cases registered in Haryana, including charges related to murder, attempted murder, extortion, organised crime and illegal possession and use of firearms.

Investigators said the accused was initially arrested in India but later absconded after obtaining bail from a court. He allegedly fled the country to evade trial and remained outside the reach of Indian law enforcement agencies for an extended period.

Following a request from Haryana Police, the National Central Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi initiated action through Interpol channels and obtained a Red Notice against Garg. Based on intelligence inputs, the fugitive was traced and subsequently detained by law enforcement authorities in Georgia.

After his arrest, Indian authorities submitted a formal extradition request. Following scrutiny of the case and completion of the required legal formalities, Georgian authorities approved the extradition and handed over the accused to an Indian police team.

A specially designated Haryana Police escort team travelled to Georgia to complete the transfer process and accompanied Garg back to India.

Officials said his return marks a significant success in international law enforcement cooperation and is expected to aid ongoing investigations into organised criminal activities linked to him and his associates.

Further legal proceedings against the accused will now continue in India.
