New Delhi: Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Monday after he reportedly lost consciousness twice over the weekend, officials said.

According to news agency PTI, the 74-year-old experienced health complications on January 10. He was subsequently taken to AIIMS for a medical check-up, where doctors advised hospitalization for detailed examination.

Officials said Dhankhar suffered “two bouts of unconsciousness” on Saturday while going to the washroom, following which he was advised to undergo a thorough medical evaluation. “He visited AIIMS for a routine check-up today, but doctors insisted on admitting him for further tests,” an official told.

Doctors are expected to conduct an MRI scan as part of the assessment. Sources also revealed that Dhankhar has reportedly blacked out on several occasions in recent months during public events held in places such as the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and the national capital.

Dhankhar had resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21 last year, citing health reasons. His sudden resignation had sparked speculation at the time, and since then, he has made only limited public appearances.

There has been no official statement so far from Dhankhar or his family regarding his current health condition.
