Tehri: Five passengers died after a bus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep ravine in the Narendranagar area of Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Monday.

According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the vehicle lost control near Kunjapuri–Hindolakhal and fell nearly 70 metres down the hillside. The impact left multiple passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

SDRF officials said five teams were rushed to the site soon after authorities received information about the accident. A rescue operation was launched immediately, and the bodies of five passengers were recovered from the spot.

Officials confirmed that 28 people were travelling on the bus at the time of the accident. The injured were pulled out of the ravine and shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment. Their condition is being assessed, and the rescue operation continued for several hours due to the difficult terrain.

Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the crash.
