New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold a press conference this evening to announce a pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list, officials confirmed on Monday.
While full details are awaited, sources indicated that the poll body is likely to unveil the first phase of the revision drive, covering 10 to 15 states. The initial phase is expected to include states heading for Assembly elections in 2026, such as Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The Special Intensive Revision is aimed at updating the electoral rolls to ensure accuracy and inclusion ahead of the upcoming election year. The exercise typically involves adding new eligible voters, deleting duplicate or ineligible entries, and correcting existing voter information to maintain transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The press conference is expected to outline the schedule, procedures, and timelines for the revision exercise.
