ECI Announces March 16 Polls for 37 Rajya Sabha Seats Across 10 States

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced that elections to 37 seats of the Rajya Sabha will be held on March 16, 2026.

According to the official notification, the biennial elections will cover seats falling vacant across 10 states.

Maharashtra will go to polls for seven seats, followed by Tamil Nadu with six seats, West Bengal and Bihar with five seats each, and Odisha with four seats. Assam will see elections for three seats, while Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Telangana will have elections for two seats each. Himachal Pradesh will vote for one seat.

The Election Commission is expected to issue detailed guidelines regarding nomination, scrutiny and withdrawal of candidatures as per the established schedule.

The upcoming elections are significant as they will determine the composition of the Upper House and could impact the legislative arithmetic in Parliament.
