New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, describing the upcoming legislative push for women’s reservation as one of the most significant decisions of the 21st century. Highlighting the proposed amendments to operationalize the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, the Prime Minister emphasized that the legislation is a dedicated tribute to “Nari Shakti” (women’s power) and a move to turn long-standing social justice visions into a practical reality within Indian governance.

The Prime Minister noted that the discourse surrounding women’s reservation in democratic structures has spanned nearly four decades, involving multiple generations and political parties. He stressed that the time has finally arrived to end the decades-long wait for increased representation in both state assemblies and the Parliament. PM Modi confirmed that a comprehensive discussion on the implementation of the Act is scheduled to take place in Parliament from April 16 to April 18, 2026, expressing a strong desire for the initiative to be passed with mutual cooperation across the political spectrum.

Emphasizing the 2029 deadline for full implementation, the Prime Minister stated that the goal is to create an egalitarian India where social justice is a natural part of the work culture and decision-making process. The event, which was also attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi, serves as a national-level platform to garner support for the constitutional amendment. The Prime Minister concluded by stating that collective efforts toward this goal would elevate the dignity of the House and bring immense joy to women across the nation.
