Thane: A devastating road accident in Maharashtra’s Thane district claimed nine lives and left three others critically injured on Monday morning, April 13, 2026. The collision occurred around 11:30 AM on the Raita bridge near Govili village in the Murbad area. According to district rural police, a van carrying several passengers crashed into a cement mixer truck that was approaching from the opposite direction.

The impact of the head-on collision was so severe that nine occupants of the van died at the scene. Three other individuals sustained life-threatening injuries and were immediately rushed to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment. Rescue operations were launched by local police and medical teams shortly after the incident was reported, and efforts were made to clear the wreckage from the busy bridge to restore traffic movement.

Preliminary reports suggest that the van may have lost control on the bridge, though a detailed technical investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. Local authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased and notifying their families. The incident has once again brought attention to road safety concerns on narrow bridges and rural highways in the Thane region.
