New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has informed the Supreme Court that details of over 65 lakh voters in Bihar, whose names were left out of the draft electoral roll published on August 1, have been made publicly accessible.

In an affidavit submitted before the court, the poll body said the information has been uploaded on the websites of all 38 District Electoral Officers across the state. The list also specifies the reasons for non-inclusion, which include deaths, change of residence, and duplicate entries.

To ensure wider accessibility, the ECI stated that physical copies of the lists have been placed at Panchayat Bhavans, block development offices, and Panchayat offices in villages throughout Bihar. This would allow citizens to check the records easily and seek clarifications if required.

The Commission further noted that efforts had been made to reach the public through advertisements in leading newspapers, broadcasts on radio and television, and posts on social media platforms, informing voters about the online availability of the lists.

The affidavit comes in the wake of ongoing scrutiny of the electoral rolls in Bihar, as the state prepares for upcoming polls.
