New Delhi — The daughter-in-law of Kamla Pasand pan masala company owner Kamal Kishor Chaurasia died by suicide at her South Delhi residence, police said on Wednesday. The deceased, 40-year-old Deepti Chaurasia, had been married since 2010.
According to officials, Deepti was found hanging from the ceiling of her home on Tuesday by her husband, who immediately alerted family members and the police. She was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police said the couple had been living separately due to ongoing marital disputes. During the investigation, officers recovered a suicide note and seized a diary containing repeated references to conflicts with her husband. The contents of both items are under examination.
However, the family’s legal representative, Rajender Singh, dismissed the claims of marital discord as “baseless.” He said the suicide note did not name anyone and urged the media not to draw premature conclusions. He added that both families had agreed to conduct the cremation together “harmoniously” as a mark of respect.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Deepti is survived by two children. Police said further investigation is underway.
