Udhampur: Three CRPF personnel were killed while 15 others were injured after a CRPF vehicle got involved in a serious road accident on Thursday in the Kadva–Basantgarh region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, leaving several personnel injured.
Confirming the accident, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sandeep Bhat stated that law enforcement and medical teams were dispatched immediately after the incident. Rescue operations were swiftly launched with ambulances reaching the scene to provide emergency assistance to the injured personnel.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been officially disclosed, though preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have skidded off a mountainous road due to challenging terrain conditions.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed concern over the incident, writing on social media: “Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was carrying several brave jawans of the CRPF.”
He further noted that he had spoken to Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, who is closely monitoring the situation and providing him with real-time updates.
Dr. Singh also praised the residents for their timely support: “Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily stepped in to help the injured, and all necessary assistance is being ensured on the ground.”
Authorities have not yet released an official count of the injured or the severity of their conditions.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the difficult and often hazardous conditions under which security personnel operate, especially in the hilly terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.
