Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-driven movement that emerged from social media activism, is preparing for its second major protest in the national capital on Saturday, with organisers calling on participants to carry plates and spoons as a symbolic expression of dissent.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin at Jantar Mantar and is expected to witness the participation of students, job aspirants and young professionals from Delhi and neighbouring states. The unusual appeal by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has added a unique dimension to the protest, with supporters planning to use the utensils to amplify their demands for greater accountability over examination-related issues.
Anticipating a sizeable gathering, Delhi Police has put extensive security measures in place. Hundreds of body-worn cameras, CCTV surveillance systems and additional police personnel have been deployed to monitor the venue and surrounding areas. Officials are also keeping a close watch on social media activity and have strengthened security at transport hubs and entry points into the city.
The protest comes amid growing concerns among students over alleged examination irregularities and recruitment controversies. In a public appeal issued ahead of the event, Dipke sought compensation for families affected by alleged exam-related tragedies and reiterated calls for accountability from authorities. The organisation has also invited artists and musicians to participate, aiming to turn the gathering into a broader platform for youth expression.
What began as an online satirical campaign has rapidly evolved into a nationwide movement, attracting attention for its unconventional symbolism and outspoken criticism of issues affecting students. With its second demonstration set to unfold under heavy security, the event is expected to test both the group’s growing influence and the administration’s preparedness to manage large-scale public protests peacefully.
