New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke met West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Delhi on Saturday, thanking her for backing the organisation’s youth-led protests. However, he clarified that the group would not take part in the INDIA bloc’s rally scheduled at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday.
Dipke said CJP supported the Opposition’s demonstration against alleged electoral irregularities but intended to retain its independent identity rather than join a political alliance.
Why Did CJP Founder Meet Mamata Banerjee?
Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Dipke said he wanted to acknowledge Banerjee’s support during the organisation’s earlier protests at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak.
He also referred to the arrest of CJP activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka by Delhi Police, saying Banerjee had stood by the group during that period.
Dipke said her backing had been important to the youth-led movement and that the meeting was primarily an opportunity to thank her.
Why Will Cockroach Janta Party Not Join The INDIA Bloc Rally?
Although CJP expressed solidarity with Sunday’s protest, Dipke ruled out participating in the rally as an organisation.
He described the party as an independent and neutral platform, saying it wanted to preserve that position while supporting efforts against alleged vote theft.
Dipke added that CJP would extend support to any organisation campaigning against electoral irregularities, regardless of its political affiliation.
Mamata Banerjee Praises CJP Activists, Invites Them To Bengal
Banerjee also spoke positively about Dipke and the young activists, acknowledging their participation in protests concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Election Commission.
She said the group had extended support to Sunday’s rally and that she had also assured them of her support. Banerjee described the activists as pioneers and founders of the movement.
She further invited Dipke and other CJP members to visit West Bengal and organise programmes there, leaving the decision to the organisation.
The meeting took place ahead of the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, where Opposition parties are set to raise concerns over alleged electoral irregularities and seek accountability from the Election Commission.
