Chandigarh: The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major gold smuggling attempt and apprehended a smuggler near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Nadia district. Officials recovered 20 kilograms of gold biscuits valued at approximately ₹2.82 crore from his possession.

According to an official statement, BSF’s 32 Battalion, deployed at Horandipur Border Outpost (BOP), received credible intelligence that an Indian national from Muslimpara village was planning to smuggle illegal gold from Bangladesh through the Horandipur area. Acting swiftly on the input, BSF personnel heightened vigilance along the border stretch.

Around 6 a.m. on Saturday, jawans noticed suspicious movement behind a dense bamboo grove. The team immediately surrounded the individual and apprehended him. Upon frisking, they found a plastic packet containing 20 gold biscuits concealed under his clothes.

The smuggler was taken into custody and brought to the Horandipur BOP for questioning. The seized gold and the accused were later handed over to concerned authorities for further legal action.

Officials said the BSF remains committed to preventing cross-border smuggling and protecting India’s economic interests along sensitive stretches of the international border.
