Patna: Senior BJP MP from Bihar and Lok Sabha chief whip Sanjay Jaiswal has reportedly received an extortion call demanding ₹10 crore, with threats to kill his son if he failed to comply, police confirmed on Sunday.
According to Bettiah Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vivek Deep, Jaiswal received two threatening calls on Friday afternoon within minutes of each other. The caller allegedly warned that his son would be murdered if the payment was not made.
Jaiswal, who represents Pashchim Champaran constituency and is a former Bihar BJP president, informed the police about the incident on Saturday. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Town police station.
“The caller appears to be linked to a criminal gang. We are tracing the phone numbers and investigating all possible leads. While there’s no evidence of political rivalry yet, all angles will be examined,” SDPO Deep stated.
Police teams have begun technical surveillance to identify the origin of the calls and ensure the safety of Jaiswal’s family.
