BCCI Awaits Government Clearance for Proposed Tour of Bangladesh

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaiting formal clearance from the Indian government regarding a proposed tour of Bangladesh for the national men’s cricket team. According to a source within the BCCI, discussions are actively ongoing with the Indian High Commission, though the final decision on whether the tour will proceed rests entirely on receiving official authorization from government officials.

The board confirmed that relations with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have stabilized following earlier strains, and both organizations are prepared to arrange a suitable scheduling window once the necessary approval is granted. The prospective series follows a period of administrative friction that arose earlier this year, which temporarily disrupted bilateral cricketing engagements between the neighboring nations.

Tensions escalated in January when the BCCI instructed the Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League squad. The directive prompted a swift reaction from the BCB, which subsequently declined to send its national team to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. Although the BCB requested that the International Cricket Council relocate its matches outside of India, the governing body declined the appeal.

Communication between the two boards resumed in April following a meeting in Dhaka chaired by former BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul. Formal correspondence was submitted to outline a framework for future co-operation, including discussions surrounding the proposed men’s tour alongside prospective visits for the women’s national teams. While both boards are eager to resume regular bilateral fixtures, the BCCI remains steadfast that player safety and official clearance will dictate all final arrangements.
