New Delhi: Banking operations across multiple Indian states will see intermittent closures this week as financial institutions observe a series of major cultural and religious festivals alongside scheduled weekend breaks. With prominent occasions such as Onam, Milad-un-Nabi, and Raksha Bandhan coinciding with regular calendar off-days, bank branches in various regions will remain closed for up to five days across the week.
Operations will first see regional closures on August 25 in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram for Onam and Milad-e-Sharif celebrations, followed by nationwide closures on August 26 across major metropolitan hubs including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Raipur for Eid-e-Milad. Later in the week, on August 28, branches in centres such as Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Dehradun, Bhopal, and Shimla will suspend counter services for Raksha Bandhan and Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti. The festive week wraps up with standard weekend closures on August 29 for the fourth Saturday and August 30 for Sunday.
Looking ahead to September, financial institutions will observe further regional holidays for major festivals. Closures are scheduled for September 4 across multiple cities including Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Chennai on the occasion of Janmashtami, followed by a localized holiday in Guwahati on September 12. Mid-month celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 will also see banking services suspended in major business centres such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Nagpur.
