New Delhi— Union Home Minister Amit Shah has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the longest-serving Home Minister in India’s history. On Tuesday, he surpassed the previous record held by senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.
Shah first assumed office on May 30, 2019, and after completing his first term on June 9, 2024, he was reappointed on June 10, 2024. As of today, Shah has served for 2,258 days as Home Minister, breaking Advani’s record of 2,256 days, which was set during his tenure from March 19, 1998, to May 22, 2004.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting held in New Delhi also marked this achievement, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly praised Shah’s long and dedicated service to the nation.
The milestone underscores Shah’s continued influence in Indian politics and the trust placed in him by the party and government leadership.
