Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun is set to appear virtually before the Nampally Criminal Court in Hyderabad on Monday in connection with the 2024 Sandhya Theatre stampede case that occurred during the premiere of his blockbuster film Pushpa 2: The Rule.
According to a statement issued by his legal team, the actor sought permission for virtual attendance due to his ongoing film shoot in Mumbai. The court had earlier summoned him to appear in the matter, following the filing of a chargesheet by the police.
The case stems from a tragic stampede that took place on December 4, 2024, during a special screening of Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre. A large crowd reportedly gathered at the venue, exceeding the theatre’s capacity and triggering a stampede that claimed the life of a woman identified as Revathi. Several others were injured, including her son, who sustained serious injuries.
Chikkadpally Police registered a case following the incident and later filed a detailed chargesheet. Reports indicate that 23 individuals, including Allu Arjun, have been named as accused in the case. The court is examining allegations related to negligence in crowd management and inadequate security arrangements during the event.
Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13, 2024, and produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. He subsequently approached the Telangana High Court, which granted him interim bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 later the same day. The actor spent around 18 hours in police custody before being released.
Following his release, Arjun described the incident as an unfortunate accident and expressed support for the victim’s family. He stated that he had attended the screening with his family and maintained that the tragedy occurred outside the theatre premises. The actor also assured that he would extend all possible assistance to the affected family.
The matter is currently under judicial consideration, with further proceedings expected after the actor’s appearance before the court.
