Navi Mumbai: Air India Express announced on Sunday that it will launch direct flights between Navi Mumbai International Airport and Abu Dhabi, making history as the very first carrier to initiate overseas flights from the newly constructed aviation facility in Maharashtra. This development represents a critical breakthrough for the long-anticipated infrastructural project and is anticipated to greatly improve commercial and tourism transport links between the broader Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the United Arab Emirates, which remains one of the highest-volume transit routes for Indian travelers.

According to the airline, the inaugural service on the Navi Mumbai-Abu Dhabi corridor will take off on July 15, starting with a bi-weekly schedule before expanding to three weekly frequencies by July 29, which will include a regular Sunday flight. This alternative connection will offer residents across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad an accessible second international terminal, thereby relieving ongoing traffic strain on the highly populated Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Reservation channels for the new route have already been made available across all digital ticketing networks and the corporate application of the company.

The introduction of the Abu Dhabi route elevates the presence of the budget carrier at the Navi Mumbai facility to 30 weekly flights, which includes established domestic paths to Bengaluru and Delhi. This tactical growth coincides with the final phases of opening the secondary regional hub, which is poised to become a vital transportation artery for western India. Supported by its ongoing marketing campaign featuring actor Pankaj Tripathi, the carrier continues to widen its regional operations, which currently feature over 95 weekly departures from Mumbai, more than 100 from Pune, and 14 from Nagpur, anchoring its position in the competitive India-West Asia aviation market.
