Guna— A 22-year-old labourer from Bihar was allegedly murdered by his maternal uncles in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh after a political dispute spiralled into violence, police said on Monday.

The victim, Shankar Manjhi, was living at an under-construction site of the police lines in the Cantt police station area along with his maternal uncles, Rajesh Manjhi (25) and Toofani Manjhi (27). All three had come from Bihar’s Shivhar district for work.

According to Cantt police station in-charge Anoop Bhargava, preliminary investigation shows the argument began during a discussion about the Bihar election result. Shankar reportedly supported the RJD, while the two accused backed the JD(U). The disagreement escalated during a drinking session and turned into a violent altercation.

Police said Rajesh and Toofani dragged Shankar to a muddy patch near the construction site, pinned him down, and suffocated him. He was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Both accused were detained soon after the incident. Officials said they confessed to the crime during interrogation. A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
