Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has taken several important welfare decisions in the interest of Gramin Safai Karmis across the state. These decisions have been taken in view of the demands raised during the meeting held with Gramin Safai Karmis on May 29, 2026. In this regard, the Director, Development and Panchayats Department, today issued a letter containing necessary directions.
It is noteworthy that Development and Panchayats Minister Krishan Lal Panwar and Social Justice and Empowerment, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi had been continuously making efforts to get the demands of Safai Karmis fulfilled, serving as a link between the Safai Karmis and the government.
According to the decisions taken by the government, the pending amount of the enhanced honorarium of Gramin Safai Karmis from January 2026 will be paid. From January 2026 to June 30, 2026, the honorarium has been increased by Rs. 2,100, from Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,100 per month.
Compassionate Appointment to Family in Case of Death During Duty
As an important decision towards the welfare of Gramin Safai Karmis, the government has made a provision that if a Gramin Safai Karmi dies during duty, one member of the deceased worker’s family will be provided appointment on compassionate grounds.
These decisions of the Haryana Government will provide significant relief to Gramin Safai Karmis across the state, not only in terms of economic and social security but also in facilities related to their work. These steps by the government mark a concrete initiative towards improving the working conditions of personnel associated with the rural sanitation system and ensuring their financial security.
