Dehra, Kangra: A disturbing incident unfolded outside the subdivisional office in Dehra, Kangra district, when a woman allegedly attacked an elderly man in broad daylight, leaving locals shocked and sparking online outrage.
According to reports, the victim, Deshbandu of Banda village in Rakkar tehsil, had visited the office for a court-related matter when he was confronted by Asha Devi, a resident of Dobha village in Mandi district. Eyewitnesses said Asha Devi poured oil over Deshbandu, soaked his clothes and hair, slapped him repeatedly, and attempted to place a garland of shoes around his neck as an act of public humiliation.
A video of the assault circulating on social media shows the woman gripping the man’s collar, resisting police attempts to restrain her, while officers repeatedly asked her to stop. She was eventually subdued by the authorities and bystanders.
Preliminary investigations indicate the confrontation may have stemmed from a long-standing land dispute. Deshbandu had previously filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, alleging fraudulent land transfer in Chameti village, registered under the name of a woman identified as Asha Devi, whom he claimed did not exist. Authorities suspect the attack was retaliatory in nature.
Police have taken Asha Devi into custody and legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation on social media, with users criticizing the violent act and demanding swift justice. Many questioned how such an attack on an elderly man could occur in public and called for strict action against the perpetrator.
Authorities have assured that the matter is being investigated thoroughly and emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through legal channels rather than violence.
