Interacting with a senior delegation from Tata Steel, including Vice President (Long Products) Ashish Anupam and representatives from Corporate Affairs, the Chief Minister noted that the Tata Steel Group is among the world’s leading steel manufacturers, with an annual crude steel capacity of around 34 million tonnes per annum and a strong global presence across multiple geographies.

The Chief Minister stated that Tata Steel Limited is establishing a 0.75 MTPA Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)-based steelmaking facility along with a Rebar Mill near HiTech Valley in Ludhiana. Spread over 115 acres, the project initially envisaged an investment of approximately ₹2,600 crore, which has now increased to ₹3,200 crore. The plant is expected to generate employment opportunities for nearly 2,500 people, thereby strengthening the region’s industrial ecosystem.

Highlighting the project’s sustainability features, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that the unit will use 100 percent steel scrap as raw material and adopt an environmentally responsible production process. He said that the Electric Arc Furnace route significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional blast furnace technology, reinforcing Punjab’s commitment to green and sustainable industrial development.

The Chief Minister further underscored the proactive role of the Punjab government in facilitating the construction and operationalisation of the project in a time-bound manner. He said that the speedy implementation reflects Punjab’s industry-friendly policies and a governance framework aimed at promoting investment.

Describing the project as a matter of immense pride, Mann said that the Ludhiana facility will be the second largest Tata Steel plant in India after Jamshedpur and represents the company’s largest investment in Punjab. Reiterating the state government’s commitment to sustained industrial expansion, he assured full support and cooperation to Tata Steel for the smooth functioning and future expansion of the project.

Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and other senior officials were also present during the interaction.
