Chandigarh: The Punjab Government is encouraging farmers to adopt horticulture and high-value crops alongside traditional farming to increase their income. In this direction, mushroom production is also being promoted. Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat stated this today.

He said that farmers can avail of a subsidy of up to 40%, subject to a maximum of Rs. 80,000, being provided by the State Government for setting up mushroom production units. This assistance is helping farmers start mushroom cultivation and create additional sources of income. He said that as mushroom production requires less land, it is also a good source of income for small and marginal farmers.

The Minister said that the primary objective of the Punjab Government is to encourage farmers to adopt more profitable farming practices by providing them with modern agricultural technologies, government schemes and financial assistance. He said that farmers can increase their income through crop diversification by availing of various schemes of the Horticulture Department.
