CHANDIGARH, June 18, 2026: An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab delegation on Thursday met Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and sought strict legal action against individuals allegedly involved in creating, circulating and amplifying a fabricated video that, according to the party, was intended to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and disturb peace and communal harmony in the state.

The delegation submitted two reports to the DGP and urged Punjab Police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the entire episode. The delegation included AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, State Media In-Charge Baltej Pannu and several other senior party leaders.

Fake Video Part of a Political Conspiracy, Says Harpal Singh Cheema

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that the viral video was part of a larger conspiracy aimed at maligning the reputation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

He claimed that the popularity and clean image of the AAP government had unsettled its political opponents, prompting them to resort to misinformation campaigns.

“The people of Punjab elected this government with overwhelming support. Certain political forces are unable to accept the popularity of CM Bhagwant Mann and have therefore resorted to fabricating videos and spreading false narratives,” Cheema said.

He further alleged that such attempts were aimed not only at defaming the Chief Minister but also at creating social tension and disturbing Punjab’s peaceful atmosphere.

Akali Dal’s Record Raises Serious Questions, Claims AAP

Harpal Singh Cheema also launched a sharp attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing it of repeatedly working against Punjab’s interests whenever it was in power.

Referring to historical incidents, he mentioned the 1986 Nakodar incident and the 2015 sacrilege cases, along with the subsequent police firing incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura.

According to Cheema, these episodes reflected a pattern in which truth and accountability were allegedly suppressed while those demanding justice suffered.

He further claimed that the report of the Justice Gurnam Singh Commission constituted during the Akali-BJP regime was never allowed to reach its logical conclusion because it could have exposed uncomfortable truths.

“The people of Punjab have not forgotten the incidents of sacrilege and the firing on protesting youths. These painful chapters continue to raise serious questions,” he said.

Demand for Immediate Arrest of Masterminds Behind the Video

The Finance Minister alleged that Punjab had also witnessed the growth of gangster culture under previous governments and claimed that the Bhagwant Mann-led government has been taking decisive action against organised crime and criminal networks.

He stated that those responsible for the alleged fake video campaign were now attempting to disturb Punjab’s unity, brotherhood and social harmony.

The AAP delegation demanded immediate arrest of the alleged masterminds behind the fabricated video as well as those who circulated it through social media platforms.

Cheema said the party had urged Punjab Police to identify every individual involved in creating, distributing and promoting the content.

No One Will Be Allowed to Disturb Punjab’s Peace

Reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, Harpal Singh Cheema said no person would be allowed to undermine Punjab’s peace and stability.

“Whether the conspirators are located in Punjab or abroad, they must be identified and brought before the law. No one will be permitted to play with Punjab’s peace, communal harmony and social stability,” he said.

He added that the Punjab Government and AAP remain committed to safeguarding public harmony and ensuring strict action against anyone found guilty of spreading misinformation intended to create unrest.

The party leaders expressed confidence that a thorough investigation would reveal the complete truth behind the alleged conspiracy and ensure accountability for all those involved.
