Punjab Government Inaugurates ₹9.12 Crore ‘Satkar Ghar’ Senior Citizen Home in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has reinforced its commitment to the welfare of senior citizens with the inauguration of a government-run “Satkar Ghar” Senior Citizen Home in Chandigarh. Built at a cost of ₹9.12 crore, the facility was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur. With a capacity of 72 beds, the “Satkar Ghar” provides free services to the elderly, including day care, nutritious meals, medical assistance, a library, yoga room and a recreation hall.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that senior citizens are the pride of society and the state government is dedicated to ensuring their dignity, care and well-being. She added that special programmes for the elderly will be launched by the department and health camps will be organised in the coming days. During the event, she interacted with residents of the “Satkar Ghar” and honoured them. She also honoured 21 newborn baby girls during the state-level “Dhiyan Di Lohri” celebration organised at the venue.

Addressing the gathering, Budhlada MLA Principal Budh Ram and Mansa MLA Dr. Vijay Singla highlighted the government’s continuous efforts towards inclusive development, welfare initiatives and infrastructure projects across the state. Director of the department, Mrs. Vimi Bhullar, said focused steps are being taken for the welfare of senior citizens, women and children, while Deputy Commissioner Navjot Kaur IAS assured that the elderly will receive homely care at the facility. On the occasion, Dr. Baljit Kaur also distributed wheelchairs, spectacles, pension approval letters, and honoured meritorious girls, while cultural performances and departmental stalls added colour to the event.
