Rapper Badshah Receives Death Threat Allegedly Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Amid Song Controversy

New Delhi: Indian rapper and music producer Badshah has reportedly received a death threat allegedly issued by members linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, adding to the controversy surrounding his recently released Haryanvi track Tateeree.

According to reports, a message circulated on social media—purportedly posted by individuals claiming association with the gang—warned the singer of severe consequences. The post allegedly threatened to shoot the artist “in the forehead,” accusing him of damaging the cultural image of Haryana through the lyrics of his latest song.

The message also referenced a 2024 incident in Chandigarh, when an explosion occurred outside the Seville Bar and Lounge, a club reportedly owned by Badshah. The attack had earlier been claimed by Goldy Brar, who is believed to be associated with the Bishnoi network.

In the same social media post, two individuals identifying themselves as Randeep Malik and Anil Pandit allegedly took responsibility for a recent firing incident at a money transfer office on Assandh Road in Panipat. They claimed the shooting targeted individuals allegedly involved in hawala transactions and warned others against engaging in similar activities.

Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the authenticity of the online threat but are expected to review the matter as part of ongoing security monitoring related to organised crime activities.

Song ‘Tateeree’ sparks backlash

The development comes amid growing criticism surrounding Badshah’s latest track Tateeree, which has faced allegations of containing objectionable references involving women and minors. The song, released on the singer’s official YouTube channel, quickly went viral but also drew sharp reactions from some sections of the public.

A complaint regarding the song was filed by a resident of Panchkula, leading to a police case against the singer.

Responding to the controversy last week, Badshah issued a public apology, stating that the lyrics were never intended to insult women or children. The rapper emphasised his strong connection to Haryana and said he takes pride in representing the state’s culture.

Explaining the context of the song, he said that competitive lyrics are common in hip-hop music but admitted that if the track had hurt sentiments, he deeply regretted it. He appealed to listeners to view him as “Haryana’s son” and forgive him if the content caused offense.

The controversy surrounding the song and the reported threat has brought renewed attention to issues of artist safety and online intimidation in the entertainment industry.
