Chandigarh : Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to providing a secure and honorable life to senior citizens, the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development is set to establish a state-of-the-art Government-owned and managed Old Age Home (Senior Citizens’ Home) at SAS Nagar (Mohali). The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has allotted 2.92 acres of land in Sector 78 for this project, marking another significant milestone in the Government’s mission to build a compassionate Punjab.

Disclosing this here today, Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the initiative reflects the visionary leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, who has consistently placed the welfare and dignity of senior citizens at the centre of the Government’s agenda.”Our elderly are our invaluable asset and guiding light. At this stage of life, caring for them is the foremost duty of the government,” the Minister said.

Sharing the Chief Minister’s humane vision, Dr. Baljit Kaur remarked, “Our government is not merely constructing buildings of brick and mortar; we are creating a ‘safe home’ where destitute and abandoned senior citizens can find a sense of belonging, respect, and family-like warmth.” She further stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has a clear resolve that no elderly person in Punjab should be forced to face loneliness or shed tears of helplessness in the twilight years of life; rather, bringing a smile to their faces is our primary duty. This Senior Citizens’ Home will stand as a strong support system for them.”

The Minister further informed that to expedite the project, a letter has been issued to the Estate Officer (Plots), GMADA, PUDA Bhawan, Mohali. They have been requested to complete all required formalities for handing over the physical possession of the allotted site to the District Social Security Officer, Mohali, at the earliest, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. This will pave the way for the immediate commencement of construction work.
