Chandigarh: Haryana Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa on Saturday heard the grievances of people from Rajound and Kalayat areas at the PWD Rest House in Kalayat, Kaithal. Former Minister Kamlesh Dhanda was also present on the occasion.
Taking a major decision on the demand of Rajound residents, Ranbir Gangwa said that the nearly two-kilometre-long road in Rajound, being constructed at a cost of around Rs. 3.5 crore, would now be built with bitumen instead of interlocking blocks. He spoke to the concerned departmental officials over the phone on the spot and directed them to start the road construction work within the next one week.
He said villages having a population of 10,000 or more have been included under the Mahagram Yojana. Around 150 villages in the state come under the scheme, including Rajound. Under the Mahagram Yojana, facilities such as sewerage, drinking water and other amenities are being provided in these villages on the lines of urban areas. Sewerage infrastructure has also been laid in Rajound.
Ranbir Gangwa said the Public Works Department is maintaining around 30,717 kilometres of roads across Haryana. Of these, patchwork on more than 16,000 kilometres of roads is being undertaken through agencies. If any agency fails to carry out the prescribed work, its bank guarantee is encashed, and the work is completed by the department.
