Chandigarh: Haryana has posted significant gains in its fight against tuberculosis, registering 35,229 users on the TB Mukt Bharat App—the second-highest in the country—while increasing TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) coverage to 49 per cent, raising molecular (NAAT) testing to 67 per cent and extending differentiated TB care to 71 per cent of eligible patients. The achievements came to the fore during a review of the state’s 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign chaired by Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi.
During the review, officials informed the Chief Secretary that Haryana has witnessed steady progress across key indicators since the launch of the campaign on March 24, 2026. The state has not only secured the second position nationally in total registrations on the TB Mukt Bharat App but has also mobilised 22,888 volunteers and 2,067 Nikshay Mitras to strengthen community participation in the fight against tuberculosis. Out of 51,526 TB cases notified between January 1 and July 23, 8,939 TB patients have registered on the TB Mukt Bharat App, enabling better patient monitoring and support.
The review highlighted a significant improvement in TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) coverage. Of the 44,574 eligible household contacts of pulmonary drug-sensitive TB patients, 21,697 individuals (49 per cent) have received preventive treatment, compared with 31 per cent at the beginning of the campaign. Fourteen districts have already crossed the 50 per cent coverage mark. To further improve performance, particularly in districts below the national average, the Health Department has launched a 60-day intensive campaign, supported by training, supervision and home visits by ASHAs, Community Health Officers and TB Health Visitors.
Officials also reported substantial progress in active case finding and early diagnosis. So far, 4,711 screening camps, including 2,814 camps in high-risk villages and urban wards, have screened 5,31,178 vulnerable individuals. A total of 2,57,081 chest X-rays have been conducted as part of the screening exercise. To strengthen diagnostic capacity, the Government of India has allotted 200 handheld X-ray machines to Haryana. Of these, 36 have already been installed, while the remaining 164 machines are expected to be commissioned shortly.
The state’s diagnostic capability has also improved considerably. Officials informed the Chief Secretary that 1.5 lakh NAAT tests have been conducted during the campaign, raising molecular testing coverage from 42 per cent to 67 per cent. Simultaneously, 22,571 out of 31,849 eligible TB patients (71 per cent) have been brought under differentiated TB care. Twenty districts have crossed the 50 per cent coverage mark under this indicator, and no district remains in the red category for differentiated TB care. The department is now working towards achieving 100 per cent upfront NAAT testing by August 2026 by extending testing hours, optimising the use of diagnostic equipment and strengthening private sector participation.
The review also assessed progress under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana and the Nikshay Mitra initiative. Officials said 55,348 beneficiaries have received Direct Benefit Transfer assistance under the 2025 component of the nutrition support scheme, while 9,000 beneficiaries have been covered under the 2026 component. In addition, 23,962 consenting TB patients have received nutrition kits through the Nikshay Mitra initiative. The state is also working with Panchayati Raj Institutions, local bodies and public sector organisations to further expand nutritional support for TB patients.
The review also covered the roadmap for the next phase of the campaign, including continued training of field staff, improved utilisation of X-ray facilities, installation of the remaining handheld X-ray machines, expansion of preventive treatment coverage and intensified monitoring of low-performing districts. The measures are aimed at accelerating Haryana’s progress towards the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis through early detection, timely treatment and stronger community participation.
