Chandigarh: Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij said that the Transport Department will install Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras across the National Capital Region (NCR). In the first phase, a total of 775 ANPR cameras will be installed in the major NCR districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar at an estimated cost of Rs. 41.74 crore. The proposal in this regard has been approved by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

The Transport Minister said that ANPR cameras will be installed at petrol pumps in the NCR areas of these districts to identify End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) and ensure compliance with environmental norms. He said the technology would enable effective identification of such old vehicles and help in enforcing the prescribed environmental provisions.
