Mumbai: As 2025 drew to a close, fans of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things had their New Year celebrations interrupted by a brief technical hiccup on the streaming platform. The much-anticipated series finale, “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” premiered at midnight on December 31, prompting millions of viewers to log in simultaneously—enough to temporarily overwhelm Netflix’s servers.
Reports indicated that some users trying to stream the finale encountered an error message stating, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page.” The issue, however, lasted only a short while, with service restored shortly afterward.
This was not the first time Netflix faced streaming difficulties related to the final season of the Duffer Brothers’ creation. When Volume 1 of season five debuted on November 26, users also reported temporary interruptions. At the time, Netflix confirmed the brief glitch and reassured fans that the service was quickly restored, noting that most issues occurred on TV devices.
The fifth season of Stranger Things has been released in three segments: Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on December 25, and the concluding episode on December 31. The finale also premiered in select theatres, giving fans multiple ways to catch the series’ dramatic conclusion.
For millions of viewers, the combination of binge-watching at home and the excitement surrounding the finale made for a memorable start to the new year—even if some had to wait a few minutes longer than expected to dive back into the Upside Down.
