Kuala Lumpur: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding his upcoming film ‘Sardaar Ji-3’, clarifying his stance amid criticism and linking the issue to the recent India-Pakistan cricket match.

Currently touring internationally as part of his ‘Aura’ concert series, Diljit addressed the matter during his first show in Malaysia, responding to the growing backlash over the casting of a Pakistani actress in his film.

“We Stand with Our Nation” – Diljit

Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which intensified public sentiment against anything perceived as pro-Pakistan, Diljit expressed grief and solidarity with the victims and their families.

“The Pahalgam incident was heartbreaking. We condemned it immediately, and I still pray that those responsible face strict punishment. We stand united with our nation,” he said during his stage address.

However, Diljit also took the opportunity to clarify the timeline of events that led to the controversy around his film, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.

“When ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ was filmed, there was no tension. We completed shooting well before the recent India-Pakistan match. It’s unfortunate that the national media has painted it otherwise,” he added.

On Cricket and Controversy

Diljit appeared to question the timing and nature of the India vs Pakistan cricket match, suggesting that the comparison between a film project and international sports events is flawed.

“If matches can happen under current circumstances, why is our film — which was shot much earlier — being dragged into politics? The two situations are not the same,” he said.

The singer-actor stressed that Punjabis and Sardars have always been at the forefront of national service, and he strongly rejected any narrative suggesting disloyalty.

“Trying to show that I or any Sardar is anti-national is not just wrong — it’s an insult. We’ve always stood for our country and always will.”
