Mumbai: Bigg Boss 13 fame Asim Riaz has initiated legal proceedings against social media influencer Bhavya Singh over remarks she allegedly made about his past relationship with actor Himanshi Khurana during a podcast.
Through his legal counsel, Asim Riaz has sent a cease-and-desist notice to Bhavya Singh. The notice has also reportedly been served on media platforms that published or circulated the comments.
According to the legal notice, Asim has objected to statements that he claims are untrue, unverified and damaging to his reputation. The dispute centres on comments concerning his relationship with Himanshi and the circumstances surrounding their reported breakup.
Bhavya’s remarks spark legal dispute
During the podcast, Bhavya reportedly spoke about information she said she had heard in the past regarding Asim and Himanshi’s relationship. She referred to an allegation that Asim had behaved violently towards Himanshi.
The notice further claims that Bhavya connected those allegations with subsequent developments and referred to the alleged existence of a video involving Asim.
Apart from the relationship-related remarks, Asim’s legal team has also objected to comments concerning his financial circumstances. The notice alleges that statements were made suggesting that Asim was financially dependent on an unidentified woman and was living on her money in Dubai.
Asim denies allegations
Asim’s lawyer has strongly rejected the claims made against the actor, maintaining that they create a false impression that he physically assaulted Himanshi.
The notice describes the statements as defamatory and says they could adversely affect Asim’s reputation, public image and professional career.
Advocate Suhail Shariff, Partner at Falcon Legal, said that his client would take action against statements considered defamatory or legally actionable. He added that further proceedings could follow if the recipients do not comply with the legal notice.
72-hour deadline issued
Through the notice, Bhavya has reportedly been directed to stop making, publishing or repeating statements that Asim considers defamatory. Media organisations and other platforms that carried or shared the disputed podcast material have also been asked to remove the relevant content.
The recipients have been given 72 hours to comply with the demands. The notice warns that failure to do so could lead to further legal action before the appropriate courts and authorities.
The matter has brought renewed attention to the former relationship between Asim and Himanshi, while the allegations at the centre of the dispute remain contested and are now the subject of legal proceedings.
