New Delhi: A labourer lost his life and two others sustained injuries after a boundary wall collapsed during underground sewage pipeline work in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony in the early hours of Friday, officials said.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight when workers were engaged in excavation and related construction activities. According to emergency responders, the wall suddenly caved in, trapping three workers beneath the debris.

Following information about the accident, teams from the Delhi Fire Services rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation. By the time rescue personnel arrived, local residents had already managed to pull out two injured workers from the rubble. Firefighters then rescued the third worker who remained trapped under the collapsed structure.

All three victims were immediately shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical treatment. Doctors later declared one of the workers dead. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Devender.

The two injured workers, identified as Rajesh, 48, and Umar, 20, are currently receiving treatment. Their condition has not been officially disclosed.

Authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the collapse. Preliminary information suggests the wall fell while sewage infrastructure work was underway in the area. Officials are expected to assess whether safety protocols were followed at the construction site.

The incident has once again raised concerns over worker safety during ongoing civic and infrastructure projects in the national capital. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any negligence was involved.
