Delhi Police Probe Threat Email After Civic Centre Security Sweep Finds Nothing Suspicious

New Delhi: A threat email sent to the official account of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor triggered a major security response in the national capital, prompting authorities to conduct an extensive search operation at the Dr. S.P. Mukherjee Civic Centre and nearby areas.

Following receipt of the message, which allegedly referred to possible explosions at locations in Delhi and adjoining regions, security agencies immediately launched precautionary measures. Teams from Delhi Police, along with bomb disposal experts and dog squads, carried out a detailed inspection of the civic headquarters.

Officials said every section of the building, including administrative offices, public areas, corridors and parking facilities, was thoroughly examined. After hours of checking, no explosives, suspicious objects or security threats were discovered.

Authorities subsequently declared the premises safe and resumed normal operations while maintaining enhanced security arrangements around the complex. Additional personnel were deployed, and officers were instructed to remain alert as a precautionary measure.

Investigators have now shifted their focus to tracing the origin of the email. Technical teams are examining digital records and communication trails to identify the sender and determine whether the message originated from within the country or from an external source.

Preliminary findings suggest the communication may have been intended to create panic rather than signal a genuine threat. However, officials emphasized that all such alerts are treated seriously until verified.

Delhi Police urged residents not to be alarmed by unverified claims circulating on social media and advised people to rely only on official updates from law enforcement agencies. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to establish the identity and motive of those behind the threatening message.

The incident once again highlights the challenges posed by hoax threats, which can divert security resources and create unnecessary concern among the public despite ultimately proving to be unfounded.
