New Delhi: A tragic sequence of violence unfolded in central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area late Saturday night, as a pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her former live-in partner. In a shocking turn of events, her husband retaliated and fatally wounded the attacker, police confirmed on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Shalini (22), a mother of two, and Ashu alias Shailendra (34). Shalini’s husband, Akash (23), was injured while trying to intervene and is currently recovering in hospital, according to police.
Attack in Public Sparks Panic
The incident occurred around 10:15 PM near Qutub Road, a bustling part of the city. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan, Akash and Shalini were on their way to visit Shalini’s mother when Ashu suddenly appeared and launched a knife attack on Akash.
Akash tried to dodge the initial assault, but Ashu then turned to Shalini, who was seated in an e-rickshaw, and stabbed her multiple times. Despite his injuries, Akash managed to fight back, wrestled the weapon away from Ashu, and stabbed him during the struggle.
Local residents, including Shalini’s brother, Rohit, rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where Shalini and Ashu were declared dead on arrival. Akash is said to be out of immediate danger.
Tense History Behind the Violence
Investigators have revealed a complicated past involving the three individuals. A few years ago, Shalini briefly separated from Akash due to domestic tensions and began living with Ashu. However, she later reconciled with Akash and resumed their relationship, moving back in with him along with her two children.
This rekindling of her marriage reportedly angered Ashu, who, according to police sources, claimed he was the biological father of Shalini’s unborn child. The motive for Saturday’s attack is believed to have stemmed from this claim and Ashu’s resentment over the couple’s reunion.
