New Delhi — Customs authorities stationed at Indira Gandhi International Airport took an Indian national into custody after intercepting approximately 2.86 kilograms of suspected marijuana concealed inside his personal luggage, with an estimated street value of Rs 99.99 lakh.

The interception occurred at Terminal 3 following routine passenger profiling. The traveller, who had landed in the capital from Phuket via a transit stop in Bangkok, was flagged and redirected through the Green Channel for thorough luggage screening. A manual inspection of his travel bags revealed six individual polythene packets containing the suspected narcotic, which weighed a net total of 2,857.5 grams.

Enforcement officers impounded the narcotics under Section 43(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, while the traveller was placed under arrest pursuant to Section 43(B). Investigators have formally registered a case under Sections 8, 20, 23, and 29 of the legislation, invoking clauses related to the illegal import, possession, and transport of banned psychotropic substances.

Authorities have launched a wider inquiry into the smuggling bid to trace the procurement channels in Southeast Asia and identify local recipients linked to the illicit consignment.
