Delhi: Parts of the national capital woke up to light rainfall on Tuesday, offering brief relief from rising temperatures. However, weather officials have warned that conditions could turn more intense as the day progresses, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across the city.
According to the India Meteorological Department, scattered showers were recorded over the past 24 hours at multiple monitoring stations. Safdarjung logged 0.4 mm of rainfall, while Palam recorded 1.4 mm. Lodhi Road and Aya Nagar received 1.0 mm and 3.0 mm respectively, indicating patchy precipitation across different parts of Delhi.
Temperatures Stay Near Normal
The early morning weather remained relatively mild. Safdarjung reported a minimum temperature of 20.1°C, slightly above the seasonal average, while Palam recorded 19.6°C, marginally below normal. Other areas such as Lodhi Road, the Ridge, and Aya Nagar also saw temperatures hovering close to or below typical levels for this time of year.
These conditions, combined with cloud cover, contributed to a cooler start compared to previous days.
Air Quality in Moderate Range
At 9:00 AM, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 111, placing it in the ‘Moderate’ category as per standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board. While this marks an improvement from poorer air quality levels, sensitive individuals may still experience mild discomfort.
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected
Meteorologists have indicated that the light showers are only a precursor to more active weather. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavier rainfall are likely later in the day, which could lead to temporary waterlogging and traffic disruptions in some areas.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds. Commuters may also face delays due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
As weather conditions remain dynamic, authorities are urging people to stay updated with official forecasts and plan their day accordingly.
