New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), warning that the weather may disrupt ongoing Durga Puja and Dussehra festivities. The alert is expected to remain in place for the next two to three hours.
According to the IMD’s nowcast, areas likely to be affected include South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, and North Delhi, along with Noida. The department has also forecast lightning in some parts of the capital.
Delhi recorded a maximum humidity of 85 percent on Thursday. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to reach 33 degrees Celsius. The city has already been experiencing spells of rain over the past few days, offering relief from persistent humidity. On Wednesday, Safdarjung weather station logged 37.8 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 114 on Thursday morning, placing it in the “moderate” category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 101 and 200 falls within the moderate range, while higher levels are categorized as poor, very poor, or severe.
