New Delhi: A brutal murder in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony has sent shockwaves across the city after a 22-year-old woman, daughter of a senior Income Tax Department officer, was found dead inside her residence in Kailash Hills.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the victim was alone at home. According to police, the crime is believed to have taken place between 6:30 am and 7:30 am, when her parents had stepped out for a walk and gym session. They returned to find their daughter lying in a pool of blood.
The victim, an engineering graduate, was reportedly preparing for the UPSC examination.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused may have sexually assaulted the woman before strangling her using a mobile phone charger cable. Officials said confirmation of sexual assault will depend on the post-mortem report.
Police suspect the involvement of a former domestic help, identified as Rahul, a native of Rajasthan, who had worked at the residence for around eight months. He was dismissed nearly six weeks ago over alleged financial misconduct.
Investigators believe the murder may have been driven by revenge, with the accused allegedly exploiting the early morning window when the house was unoccupied. There are also indications that valuables may have been stolen before the suspect fled the scene.
Senior police officials and forensic teams reached the spot soon after the incident and have begun collecting evidence. Multiple teams have been deployed to trace the accused, who remains absconding.
